Making a Bullitt cargobike lighter

Ok, so I have given in. All those people telling me that a cargobike is too heavy to ride far have convinced me that I need to find a way to make my Bullitt Clockwork lighter.

Fortunately, it turns out it is quite easy to lose a couple of kilos off a Bullitt. All you need is a hosepipe and some Green Clean.

To see why I have been able to save a lot of weight take a look at these pictures 🙂

Note, just in case it wasn’t obvious I am not a clean bike fanatic so I have just hosed it down, given a quick wipe with a sponge and am done. When it has blown dry I’ll use Green Oil “White” on the chain and I’ll be set for a few more months 🙂

Hillarious! That would make it lighter. As a side note, I have noticed that people often talk about the weight of cargo bikes as a negative. Yes, they are heavy when compared to a traditional bike and when carrying a load, they are heavy. However, that weight is not felt by the rider unless it is a steep hill. Have you found that as well? Something about the weight and the spread on the length of the bike and inertia. Newton law and such. I think a selling point to cargo bikes is how the weight is really not felt.

    • I agree. The Bullitt does not seem heavy when you ride it. However today I rode my lovely and lightweight fixie into Leicester against the wind. It felt harder than my Bullitt although I am riding in a more aerodynamic position I suspect

      a) I missed having lower gears

      b) The lack of weight meant that I did not have momentum through gusts

      c) being on a “faster” bike subconsciously put pressure on me to ride faster
