No heart attack this week

Studies from Purdue University in the US have shown that regular cycling can cut your risk of heart disease by 50 percent. And according to the British Heart Foundation, around 10,000 fatal heart attacks could be avoided each year if people kept themselves fitter. Cycling just 20 miles a week reduces your risk of heart disease to less than half that of those who take no exercise, it says. Fitness: 33 Reasons To Cycle – BikeRadar.

Ok so this week so far (which has been a quiet week for meetings away from home):

Makes a total of 63.12 miles (101 km). If 20 miles is enough to cut the risk of a heart attack by more than 50% does that mean I now have reduced the risk of a heart attack to only 12.5% of the risk for someone who didn’t exercise this week?

Besides the health benefits many of these journeys have been quicker than by car (total time savings are quite considerable).

I also didn’t have to pay for or find time for a gym. It was cheaper for the Church as they pay my expenses (about £15 including car park savings).

I have had some lovely rides eg through Watermead Park.

I don’t think I have been rained on once this week.

So why are so many people driving? It makes no sense to me.
